Victory Baptist Relief Fund

Background

Following frequent and sustained requests for various categories of material help from brethren in the Victory Baptist Church, the pastors, deacons/deaconesses, members of the Church Council decided to find a more effective and lasting solution to the problem. The end result happened to be the institution of the Relief Fund.

Justification

Victory Baptist’s approach to ministry is holistic. Whilst we are Bible oriented and have strong teaching and prayer ministry, we have nonetheless shown concern of the plight of the needy. The Bible underscores that, there will never cease to be poor in the land. God therefore commanded that, we open wide our hand to our brothers and sisters, to the needy and to the poor, in our land – Deuteronomy 15:11. In view of the above, John has said that, If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, he cautioned, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth – 1 John 3:17-18.

Relieving the needs of humanity is biblical and so our evangelistic approach tends to integrate the concerns of the needy (Acts 2:45; 4:35). Like the first church, the modern church continues to experience, not only spiritual but also, physical and/or material needs. This notion forms the basis for the institution of the “Relief Fund” for the needy.

Proposed sources of fund

The success of the Relief Fund depends, to a large extent, on a sustainable provision of financial and/or material support. The Church has in the past embarked upon the following actions to secure funding for the operation of the Relief Fund.

  • Periodic appeals to the brethren to make voluntary contributions to the fund.

  • Special church offering solely for the fund during every Sunday service.

Help Categories that may be considered

The following categories have been considered for the provision of help. Each case has been considered on its own merit. They are:

  • Modest contributions to medical bill or prescription

  • Financial need

  • Student or Child school fees

  • Bereaved/Orphan

  • Widows/Widowers

  • Old age

  • Employment/Vocational training

  • Petty trading and capital requirements

  • Rent deposit payment

  •  Physically and Mentally challenged

Work in Progress

  1.  Currently, the Fund gives financial support to many students/pupils at tertiary, secondary and elementary levels.

  2. The fund gives monthly stipends to over fifteen (15) old and disadvantaged folk.

  3. The Relief Fund pays for the accommodation of two (2) Old and needy persons.

  4. The Fund has catered for the financial requirements of many petty traders.

  5. The fund has registered many to the National Health Insurance and has sometimes paid for prescriptions.

A Call for help/support

The reality is the fact that, the demand for financial help has always exceeded the funds available for disbursement consequently, a queue is resorted.

The Victory Baptist Church looks for a generous man or woman who will partner with us to sustain this noble agenda. You will be blessed, for you have shared your food with the poor – Proverbs 22:9.
